The Delaware Symphony Orchestra (DSO) returns to live, in-person concerts this fall for its 2021-2022 season.
The season starts in September at Wilmington’s DuPont Country Club with a Chamber Series piano recital.
The orchestra’s executive director J.C. Barker says after a year of scaled down concerts with tiny audiences due to COVID-19, they will stay smaller than normal to start for practical reasons.
“We wanted to make sure that our audiences were comfortable," said Barker. "Of course, we all hope - and with vaccinations - that we’ re going to be more comfortable travelling around as the months proceed. But we were extra cautious with the concerts in the fall for that exact reason.”
The season opens with two of the DSO’s favorite musicians, Luigi Mazzocchi and Lura Johnson as part of a series of fall shows.
"We’re excited to welcome back live audiences. And we are cautious but we are optimistic that we are going to be able to return to somewhat normal circumstances this next year," said Barker We have three concerts - September 21, and then there’s a concert in October and a concert in November. And we are basically planning the season like a crescendo.”
