Two city council seats up for grabs in Newark election

Tuesday is Election Day in the City of Newark.

Voters head to the polls to decide a pair of contested city council races.

In the 3^rd District, Jen Wallace and Arlynn Hall are facing off to fill the seat held by Rob Gifford, who decided not to run for re-election.  Gifford has endorsed Wallace in the race.

In the 5^th district, incumbent Luke Chapman seeks to fend off a challenge from Donna Means.  Chapman has held the seat since 2012. 

Winners will earn two-year terms on city council.

6^th District Councilman Stuart Markum and Mayor Polly Sierer are running unopposed – giving Markum another two year term on council and Sierer three more years in the mayor’s office.

Polls opened at 7 am and will close at 8 pm.  There are two polling places:

District 3:  Aetna Fire Station #7 on 7 Thorn Lane
District 5:  First Presbyterian Church, Memorial Hall at 292 W. Main Street
