There’s good news for motorists who have been fighting traffic tie-ups between Little Heaven and Milford since November 2015.

The roadwork responsible for those traffic jams is wrapping up soon.

DelDOT communications director C.R. McLeod says the $40 million Little Heaven project is just a piece of a $114 million six-district improvement Corridor Capacity Preservation Program.

“Where we’re really looking to eliminate crossovers and bottlenecks, along Route 1 really from, beginning at Dover Air Force Base all the way down to Sussex County. And it’s really something we’ve been working on in pieces over the past decade,” McLeod said.

McLeod calls the Little Heaven Project “very intensive.”

“We’re reconstructing a two-mile stretch of roadway that has been a long-time bottleneck on the Route 1 corridor,” said McLeod.

McLeod reports the entire project is scheduled for completion by Spring 2019 - depending on weather conditions over the next few months.

He says the contractor - A-Del Construction - is currently working on finishing the bridge deck over Bowers Beach Road.

McLeod notes the next Route 1 project is in Sussex County at the Route 16 and Cave Neck Road intersections.
