The city of Dover is no longer under curfew.
Mayor Robin Christiansen ended the curfew Saturday.
It had been in effect by emergency order since May 31st when looting and vandalism connected to a protest in the city occurred.
In his declaration ending the curfew, Christiansen said the move is based on information from Dover’s Police Chief indicating it is in the best interest of consituents and local businesses to lift order
The move comes after the ACLU of Delaware and others called on Christiansen this week to lift the curfew, arguing there is no imminent threat justifying it, and the curfew violates residents’ First Amendment rights.
Dover police said they have not enforced the curfew. And Christiansen has characterized it as “voluntary.”
