The day before Thanksgiving is dubbed “Blackout Wednesday” or “Drinksgiving” in some circles.

Thanksgiving Eve is a big night of overindulgence according to AAA Mid-Atlantic Spokesman Ken Grant.

“This has traditionally become a time when people are returning home, to their hometowns and getting together with friends and family and hitting the bars and re-living old times and glory days," Grant said.

Grant says people who like to party, should plan ahead so they do not have to get behind the wheel of a car to drive home after drinking with friends and family.

AAA says during the holidays, 45 people are killed nationally by intoxicated motorists a day - compared with 28 each day during other times of the year.

Grant says according to Delaware State Police, there were 309 crashes during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2016.
