Legislation is being introduced to enshrine parental rights in Delaware’s Constitution.


The U.S. Supreme Court has allowed the Trump administration policy banning most transgender people from serving in the U.S. military to take effect while challenges move through lower courts.

A few weeks ago, President Trump tweeted that transgender troops would be banned from serving in the military. And as of Friday August 25th, he's signed a memo pledging to keep that promise and is prohibiting the Department of Defense from providing medical care to transgender service members.  

Delaware’s two U.S. Senators are bashing President Trump’s decision to withdraw guidance that would protect the rights of transgender students.

 

Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons both called the decision "misguided" and "cruel" in statements this week.

 


A federal judge has blocked the implementation of national guidelines that say transgender studentf should be able to use the bathroom matching their gender identity.    

But transgender students in Delaware aren’t expected to be affected.

The Obama administration issued a directive threatening to deny funding for schools with policies singling out transgender students.  Delaware is ahead of the curve, it passed a law in 2013 that provides protections for transgender people in employment, housing and public accommodations.
