New Castle County Councilman Joseph Reda dies

Longtime New Castle County Councilman Joseph Reda died Thursday.

 

Reda has served on the New Castle County Council since 2004 - focusing on issues including code enforcement, affordable housing and open space preservation.

A Middletown contractor will spend the next two years upgrading a dangerous intersection in Bear and adding a bike and pedestrian path outside Lums Pond State Park.

Officials break ground on Route 9 Innovation Center

Work on the Route 9 Innovation Center in New Castle is now underway. Officials broke ground on the facility Tuesday.

 

In an area of New Castle that’s seen community schools and services close down or dry up, residents and officials are hoping that the expansive new building will reinvigorate the area.

New Castle County is funding a new no-interest loan program to help homebuyers make down payments on properties in distressed neighborhoods.

The county will be able to offer 50 to 100 of the $5,000 loans at a time. They're meant to be used in 20 census tracts from Glasgow to Newark with high levels of foreclosure, vacancy and declining home values.

Wilmington Celebrates Earth Day on Rodney Square

  Today is Arbor Day and environmentalists, elementary school students and politicians assembled on Wilmington’s Rodney Square to celebrate.

 

Vendors, like the Delaware Nature Society and alternative energy companies, handed out pamphlets about environmentalism and gave away dogwood plants. Vegan activists gave out free cookies, and budding gardeners grasped their seedlings.
