Imagine Dragons, Young The Giant, Grouplove, Foster The People, Matt and Kim – those are just a few of the powerhouse musical acts who can say they’ve played the Firefly Music Festival in Dover twice since its inception in 2012.

But this summer, Delaware natives Brian Bruce, Sam Nobles and Andrew Fusca, three members of the Newark-based band Fiancé, can add their names to the list.

Action on the track gets underway in earnest Friday as Dover’s first NASCAR race weekend of the year revs up.

Drivers in all three series competing this weekend in Dover are on the Monster Mile throughout the day.

Wilmington University’s baseball team’s first trip to the NCAA Division II College World Series is over.

The Wildcats were eliminated from the eight-team, national championship tournament in North Carolina with Monday’s 5-0 to Angelo State in a losers’ bracket contest.

Wilmington had two runners on in three separate innings, but failed to score a run.  The Wildcats also hurt their own cause, committing four errors that led to three unearned Angelo State runs.

Wilmington finishes its season at 37-15 and loses 13 seniors.

A disappointing start to the Wilmington University’s baseball team first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series.

The Wildcats were edged by Catawba  3-2 Saturday in their opening contest at the eight-team, double elimination national championship tournament.

Wilmington gave up two first inning runs and was unable to recover –limited just two hits by five Catawba pitchers.

The loss drops the 37-14 Willdcats into the losers bracket.  They need a win Monday over Angelo State to stay alive.

Enlighten Me: Single mothers beauty pageant

Traditionally, beauty pageants are known as competitions among young, physically appealing women. It’s not often that you come across one where the contestants are mothers-- or more specifically, single mothers.

Recently, management services company Destined2Be put on a “Single Moms Beauty Pageant” at Dover Downs, to celebrate the plight of single mothers.

And for this week’s Enlighten Me, Delaware Public Media’s Eli Chen attended the event.

Scallywags, swashbucklers and other assorted pirates will invade Bowers Beach Memorial Day Weekend.

The annual Buccaneer Bash will feature a treasure hunt, sword fights and a pirate ship complete with cannons.

Each spring, thousands of migratory shorebirds from around the world stop to feed for two weeks in the Delaware Bay on horseshoe crab eggs to help fuel their journey from South America to their Arctic breeding grounds. The Delaware Bay is home to the largest population of horseshoe crabs on the Atlantic coast.

Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay

First State Girl Scouts will make a special delivery to the USO at Dover Air Force Base Wednesday. Operation Taste of Home will provide 988 cases of Girl Scout Cookies donated by their customers for members of the U.S. Armed Forces.
