The City of Wilmington is pressing pause on an effort to renew several tax abatement programs.

Regional planners hope to solve flooding problems on Wilmington’s E. 7th Street Peninsula, where sea level rise could eventually make the flooding worse. Many business owners there don’t want to move, and some want to see more development.

 


Darul Amaanah Academy and five families are settling their civil rights lawsuit with the City of Wilmington. The suit alleged Muslim children were harassed and asked to leave a city pool last summer because of religious-related clothing.

Wilmington Housing Partnership (WHP) Executive Director Steve Martin has resigned following a City of Wilmington audit that revealed misuse of financial assistance from the City, hundreds of thousands of dollars in accounting records errors and a “weakened financial condition.”

An ad hoc committee comprised of five council members is tapping Albert Mills to represent CityCouncil District 1.  He replaces his twin brother Nnamdi Chukwuocha, who was elected to the State House of Representatives earlier this year.
