A sure sign of spring has arrived.

The 2015 Delaware farmers’ market season opened this weekend with the Milton market kicking things off. Most markets start their operations in May and continue throughout the summer.

Gas prices continue to rise in Delaware

First State gas prices climbed again in the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware rose by two cents from $2.38 to $2.40.  It's the third straight week prices have gone up, but First State drivers are still playing over a dollar less than they were a year ago when the average stood at $3.64.

Delaware’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate continues its skid, down two tenths of a point to 4.6 percent in March.

This is the ninth month of continued decline for Delaware’s jobless rate from 5.9 percent in June 2014.

Solar City, the top solar energy provider in the US, has opened its second Delaware operation in the city of Newark.

 

Gov. Jack Markell praised the company for delivering jobs and green energy.

 

"We want to see that continued growth. You talk about something that’s good for the economy. It’s good for the environment," he said.

Retail is on the rebound, as more marquee merchants enter the market, shopping centers have fewer dark storefronts and malls record their highest occupancy rates in nearly two decades. 

That translates to more choices for consumers, who are showing signs of loosening their purse strings after years stuck in the economic doldrums.

Delaware is the second best state for college grads to find work according to a recent report

The report, released by the Georgetown University Center on Education and the Workforce, shows that the First State is just behind Massachusetts when it comes to available jobs for graduates.

The report ranks the states by how many job openings there are per college-educated worker overall -- and within certain industries and career fields.

First State gas prices were up over the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware rose by three cents from $2.25 to $2.28. This is the first time Delaware prices at the pump have climbed in over three weeks.

Gov. Jack Markell (D-Delaware) discussed measures his administration is taking to assist First State companies looking to do business abroad during an address to the State Chamber of Commerce Tuesday.

Companies that compete globally are shown to do 25% more business than domestic-only firms – and Markell is hoping his new Strategic Export Plan stimulates more exports to countries like Mexico, Canada, South Korea and Germany – to leverage their buying potential.

Gas prices for First State motorists fell for a third straight week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware dropped 3 cents from $2.28 a week ago to $2.25.

Delawaregasprices.com reports there are just over a dozen stations selling a gallon of regular for $2.15 or slightly less – all in New Castle County.

Delaware drivers are paying 17 cents below the national average, which has remained at $2.42 in the past week.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware dropped 6 cents from $2.34 a week ago to $2.28.
