New dispensary opens at Tanger Outlets

Delaware Public Media

There’s a new medical marijuana dispensary in Sussex County.

The New York-based Columbia Care now has a presence in all three Delaware counties. It recently opened its third First State dispensary at the Tanger Outlets in Rehoboth Beach. It’s the sixth medical marijuana facility statewide.

The roughly 4,000 square foot location offers Columbia Care’s 14 different strains of marijuana flower as well as an assortment of vapes, capsules, tinctures and CBD wellness products. Officials say they plan to add lotion and hash products in the coming months.

The company’s Mid-Atlantic Vice President George DeNardo says the store front at Tanger Outlets represents a step towards medical marijuana going mainstream.

“When the opportunity was presented that we can get inside of a Tanger Outlet, we felt that really brought credibility not only to the industry but also Columbia Care,” said DeNardo.

The Delaware Division of Public Health recently counted more than 8,200 card-carrying medical marijuana patients in Delaware. More than 2,500 are in Sussex.

A bill legalizing recreational marijuana while imposing a 15% state tax cleared a Delaware House committee over the summer during the first leg of this legislative session. But DeNardo says not much would change for the company if it passes.

“Columbia Care is a medically focused company. However, we have operations in states that have both medical and adult use. So it does not really change our.path of helping any patients,” he said.

DeNardo says there are several jobs open at the new Rehoboth location which is currently running a seven-person staff.
