More Mumps in Delaware

Delaware Public Media

Delaware’s Division of Public Health is reporting two more cases of the mumps in the First State. The total outbreak now includes 15 people.

Most either attended, or live with someone who attended, one of two dances held at the Chase Center in Wilmington this year, but the source of two of the cases has yet to be confirmed.

DPH continues to urge those who were at the Chase Center’s Baile Mejicano dance event on either March 3, or February 10, to see their primary care physician.

All people confirmed to have the mumps in Delaware live in New Castle County and are over the age of 21, save for one child under the age of five.

The mumps is a virus transmitted by saliva. While not everyone infected experiences symptoms, they can include fever, headache and tiredness. Mumps often leads to swollen salivary glands and can lead to severe swelling complications in adults.

There is no treatment for mumps.
