Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC), is hosting the World War I Mobile Museum.
The Mobile Museum is at the Fort Miles Museum and Historic Area in Cape Henlopen State Park for a second straight year.
Fort Miles is already a destination for anyone looking to learn about Delaware’s role in the Second World War. It was home to a piece of the nation’s World War II coastal defense - including an artillery battery.
Sean Carrow is a trainer and educator with DNREC’s Division of Recreation and Parks.
He says the WWI Mobile Museum piggybacks on the story Fort Miles tells:
“You come in and visitors will come through inside the actual World War II Battery that we have here at Fort Miles. And you just step back...to basically see what it was like before World War II in World War I. And see what it was like and what these soldiers experienced. We have artifacts ranging from trench artifacts and where these soldiers were living,” Carrow said.
Carrow adds the World War I mobile museum also features vintage panoramic photographs of some of America’s first Aero Squadrons, an authentic 48-star flag, and many personal equipment items from the War’s combatants.
The WWI Mobile Museum event at Cape Henlopen State Park is free and available through Saturday. Tours of the WWII Battery 519 are also available there for $5.
