Wilmington artist shows depth in new show

Abstract painter Su Knoll Horty’s newest exhibit Color Pops Two opens at the Christina Cultural Arts Center next month.

The show, which is a follow up to Color Pops, shown last summer in Wilmington's Mezzanine Gallery, explores sudden bursts of paint with colors evolving into one another.

"You know starting out with a blue/grey evolving into a softer blue, (then) into a bolder blue," Horty said.

Starting with a layer of oil paint, she said she paints from an abstract canvas in her mind, like a deep pool eddy.  She then skims, stacks and blends colors with a rubber tipped stylus, or as she calls it “drawing into wet paint.”

Color Pops Two features 11 paintings. It will be at the Christina Cultural Arts Center in Wilmington May 5 - 29.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
