Voters select GOP nominees for two Sussex County Council seats

A big night in Thursday’s primaries in the race for two Sussex County Council seats.

Current Planning and Zoning Commissioner Doug Hudson defeated former Sussex County Clerk of the Peace George Parish for the District 4 seat by a vote of 2,168 to 1,507.

The District 4 seat is currently held by Councilman George Cole; he did not run for re-election, deciding to retire after more than 30 years on the Council.

Hudson will now face Democrat Paulette Rappa in the general election in November.

Meantime, former Sussex Republican Committee Chair John Rieley defeated Kevin Christophel - the president of the Greater Laurel Area Chamber of Commerce- to win the District 5 seat by a vote of 1,688 to 1,310.

The District 5 seat is currently held by Rob Arlett who is vacating his seat to run for U.S. Senate  He won Thursday’s Republican primary and will challenge Senator Tom Carper in November’s General election.

 

Riley will face Democrat Ellen Magee for Arlett’s seat in the general election in November.
