Urquhart claims victory in Republican U.S. House primary

The State Republican Party may have suffered another blow in the race for Delaware's lone U.S. House seat. With 100% of the vote in unofficially, Glen Urquhart appears to have topped party endorsed Michele Rollins.  Urquhart leads Rollins by a razor thin margin of 552 votes and says he is the winner.

Rollins says the margin is too small to concede the race just yet.  She may request a recount.

Urquhart does not believe a recount will change the result, but isn’t surprised Rollins will not quit easily. “I imagine all kinds of emotions are going through Michele Rollins at this point and I certainly understand,” said Urquhart.  "I hope that she will join with us to unite the party, unite the people.”

The last poll heading into the election, conducted by Public Policy Polling last weekend indicated Urquhart was in position to defeat Rollins.  That poll had Urquhart ahead by 50% to 38% with nine percent undecided.

Urquhart believes, if it stands, his victory, like Christine O’Donnell’s U.S Senate primary win, indicates voters are sending a message.  “The people have spoken.  They have said we don’t want professional politicians,”  said Urquhart.  “We want citizen, servant legislators who are willing to sacrifice with us.”

Urquhart believes that anti-establishment message will continue to resonate in a November general election battle with former Lieutenant Governor, and Democratic nominee John Carney.   Carney did not face a primary challenge.
