Univ. of Delaware Master Players season set to open

The University of Delaware’s 2017/2018 Master Players Concert Series opens this weekend.

Master Players Producing Artistic Director and U-D Trustees Distinguished Professor of Music Xiang Gao says the six-concert season is entitled “Unity in Variety.”

“We want to showcase not just the general public, but especially the younger audience in America, since they’re becoming the next generation of political, business and economic leaders. They need to know music and especially performing arts today -it’s an incredibly powerful tool to unite people,” said Gao.

Gao believes that message is also a timely one.

“As an artist, performing artisan, also creator and producer, we all feel the same mission in this very confusing and divisive time of our country, said Gao. "And I’m a Chinese American and I feel important about bringing people of all backgrounds, cultures and nationalities together.”

The opening concert of the series featuring The Stars of Baltimore is this Sunday, October 1 at 3 p.m. at Gore Recital Hall.  This year's series will also feature the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), the Shanghai Quartet and a Frank Sinatra-themed holiday concert.

A complete list of season shows and ticket information is available Master Players Concert Series website.
