Unemployment up slightly in Delaware, down nationally

Delaware Public Media

The unemployment rate rose in Delaware last month while it dropped nationally.

The two rates had been even at 3.9% for two straight months before diverging.

Unemployment in Delaware is now at 4% while nationally unemployment dropped to a historic low 3.7%.

Delaware Department of Labor Experts say the national drop is significant while the rise here is not, adding there is not much difference in the two labor markets.

Over the past year the number of employed residents in the US has risen 1.1% while the number in Delaware is up 1.9%.

Despite the uptick in Delaware joblessness, the state’s median duration of unemployment fell below 10 weeks for the first time in a decade.

It now rests at 9.9% weeks while the national mean is 9.3%.
