The University of Delaware Department of Music opens its 2017/2018 Fall Concert Season this week.

UD’s Department of Music spokeswoman Diana Milburn says the first concert is with visiting guest artists, the Calidore String Quartet, offering a Beethoven themed performance Friday night at 8 at UD’s Roselle Center for Performing Arts.

Milburn says another highlight of the fall season is new Sublime Strings Series.

"The Sublime String Series is designed to bring people in who have never been here before. And we found that people didn't know about University of Delaware's Department of Music's offerings and when they did know, they did not feel invited to come," said Milburn. "So, we made it so you could bring a friend for free when you buy one ticket, you get one ticket for free for your friend."

The fall season schedule also includes world-class guest artists James Stern, violin, in recital on October 15, and Julie Landsman, Principal Horn of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra on October 28.

Distinguished faculty perform at the Faculty Gala on September 23, Faculty Jazz on October 16, and in acclaimed Resident Ensembles and Faculty Artist Recitals throughout the semester.

The Chamber Orchestra Cinema Series continues with Alfred Hitchcock’s The Lodger (1927), a silent movie with live orchestral accompaniment scheduled for October 20, 7:00 p.m. at Gore Recital Hall.

The University of Delaware Department of Music produces and presents more than 250 events each year.

The complete performance schedule can be found on the Department of Music's website.
