Sussex Tech unveils new student-designed logo

The Sussex Technical School District has unveiled a new student-designed logo.

The Sussex Technical School District has launched a new logo just in time for the 20-19/20-20 school year.

Sussex Tech School District Superintendent Stephen Guthrie says during strategic planning discussions over the past year, he noticed that the District did not have a single consistent logo.

He says there were two working logos being used throughout the District and some others that just appeared, “And so along the path of strategic planning, I mentioned just to the advisory groups and we talked about branding and changing the image of the school and we needed a unifying symbol to do that.”

Superintendent Guthrie says someone suggested the district solve this through a student contest within the graphic arts program, “We had 15 really good entrants. I had pulled together a panel of teachers, students and administrators to judge them. And we came up with a winner.”

Guthrie says the winner was recent Sussex Tech graduate Joseph Wilder of Seaford —  a student in the Digital Publishing and Design program.

Wilder is headed to the Savannah College of Art and Design in Georgia this fall to major in graphic design.

Superintendent Guthrie says the iconic raven image on the logo is recognized across Sussex County.

And he notes the new logo’s guiding words - “Preparing Students For Their Future” - are a daily reminder of the District’s purpose.
