Sussex Tech dental students collect donations for Crisis House in Georgetown

A trio of Sussex Tech students recently spearheaded a campaign to collect dental care items and money for residents of the Crisis House.

Residents of the Crisis House in Georgetown recently received donations from some dental students at Sussex Tech High School.

Three students in Sussex Tech’s dental technology program spearheaded a campaign to collect dental care items and monetary donations for the Crisis House, an emergency shelter for homeless men, women and children.

Summer Beardsley of Millsboro was one of those students.

“We collected dental supplies, like toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash and floss. And we wanted to gather those items to donate to the Crisis House because brushing your teeth is really important and dental hygiene is really important,” Beardsley said.

Savannah Conaway of Lincoln also helped organize the collection, which she says was educational in a number of ways.

“I’ve learned a lot about working in the community and just how to help people overall with dental hygiene,” Conaway said.

Along with the dental care items, the students gave Crisis House residents a check for $50 raised through a GoFundMe page.
