The Sussex County E-O-C will next week host its 18th annual 9-1-1 Awareness Day, on Thursday, Oct. 12

Sussex County is putting a face and place on display when it comes to voices behind 911.

The Sussex County Emergency Operations Center will host its 18th annual 911 Awareness Day next week.

Assistant Chief Dispatcher Richard Short says the event next Thursday especially appeals to children.

"Basically, it's a day full of fun for kids, 5th graders, that we send an invitation out to all the schools in Sussex County," said Short. "It's a free event. We have multiple agencies that put on displays for them."

Short says this year’s event will feature safety demos and emergency vehicles on display, from police K-9’s subduing pretend perpetrators to fire trucks, EMS units and police units.

Tours of the Sussex County 911 Center will also be available.

The event, at the public safety complex, on Rudder Lane in Georgetown, runs from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday, October 12 and is sponsored by Sussex County and the Delaware State Police, which jointly operate the Sussex 9-1-1 center.
