Sussex County EMS earns first-ever national accreditation

Sussex County Emergency Medical Services recently earned its first-ever national accreditation.

Sussex County Emergency Medical Services recently earned accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS).

The accreditation is one of the highest marks a pre-hospital EMS service can receive for its operations and service. It recognizes that Sussex County EMS meets or exceeds nationally-accepted standards for patient care.

The accreditation is the first ever for Sussex County EMS, which is only the second advanced life support (ALS) system in Delaware to earn the distinction.

Re-accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services is required every three years and consists of a comprehensive self-assessment, application and on-site evaluation by industry experts, who verify compliance in clinical standards, operations and risk management, communications, equipment, facilities, as well as community relations and disaster management coordination.

Sussex County EMS received a perfect score on its evaluation.
