Sunday hunting waits for Gov. Markell's signature

Delaware Public Media

State senators signed off on legislation legalizing hunting on certain Sundays in Delaware.

The bill would limit deer hunting to five Sundays on private land and certain designated public areas between the October and January seasons.

Lawmakers struck down an amendment that would’ve limited hunting until noon on those Sundays.

Any hunting on state land will have to be approved after collecting comments at public meetings.

Birdwatchers and equestrians have raised worries in the past that they could be hit by stray shot if hunting is allowed at that time.

Bird hunting would still be banned on Sundays, while the law currently allows trapping and some red fox hunting on that day.

Gov. Jack Markell (D) is currently reviewing the legislation. His signature is the bill’s final hurdle before becoming law.
