Stuff the Bus Thanksgiving Food Drive kicks off Monday, adds Newark location

The 19th Annual Stuff the Bus Thanksgiving Food Drive is taking place November 7th through 12th.

Last year 9.1 tons of items were collected, and the Delaware Transit Corporation’s Julie Theyerl says they hope to surpass that amount this year.

“We’re really excited about it,” Theyerl said. “We’ve had great success over the years and we’re hoping to have even a better year this year.”

The Food Bank of Delaware suggests donations of non-perishable food items, paper goods and more.

“So that runs the gamut from stuffing, to canned vegetables, to paper products laundry products, personal care – all sorts of things that people need,” Theyerl said.

The Food Bank of Delaware’s most-needed holiday items include canned sweet potatoes, peas and corn, canned pumpkin, evaporated milk and more.

All of the items collected are given to the Food Bank of Delaware and distributed through a network of hunger relief partners. These partners receive more than 900,000 visits each year.

They encourage donations throughout the year – as they struggle to keep a good inventory of canned fruits and vegetables and cereal at other times.
