State Rep. Mike Mulrooney (D-Pennwood) has decided not to run for another term.
Mulrooney has represented the 17th District in New Castle County, which stretches from New Castle to Newport, for 20 years.
Mulrooney said he’s proud of his work getting working families better pay and benefits, but had hoped to do more to fund drinking water infrastructure improvements.
“The biggest thing I regret right now would be the clean water bill," he said. "I really wanted to get that done. I think it’s a big issue, bigger than most people want to think about. It should have been done, but we couldn’t get it finished this year.”
Mulrooney is the 10th member of the General Assembly, and the 7th member of the House not to seek re-election.
Before becoming a state legislator, Mulrooney was an electrician. He’s been a leader in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union for more than a decade.
He’s also taught in the New Castle County Vo-Tech School District for the past 12 years.
