State mourns death of former Delaware Supreme Court Justice

Tom Byrne/Delaware Public Media

Retired Delaware Supreme Court Justice Andrew Moore has passed away at the age of 83.

Moore served on the state’s high court from 1982 until 1994.

He is known as an iconic figure of American corporate law, ruling on several cases that attracted national interest during the private equity takeover boom of the 1980s.

His decisions in Unocal Corp. v. Mesa Petroleum Co. and Aronson v. Lewis are required reading in corporate law classes across the country.

Justice Moore also helped create a program called Delaware Interest on Lawyer’s Trust Accounts. That program has provided millions of dollars in aid to poor people in need of legal assistance.

A Memorial Service will be held Dec. 19 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Wilmington.
