State fines DuPont for hazardous wastes violations at Experimental Station

DNREC

DuPont is being hit with penalties for improperly handling hazardous waste at the DuPont Experimental Station near Wilmington.

DNREC Secretary Shawn Garvin has issued a nearly $57,000 fine for three violations.

During an inspection last May, DNREC found two violations – one for storing waste over the one-year storage limit and another for failing to properly identify hazardous waste

A July inspection uncovered more waste stored over the one-year limit.

DuPont operates a hazardous waste incinerator and has hazardous waste storage pads at the Experimental Station.

The May violations involved waste from Chemours received and stored by DuPont.  The July violation involved waste generated by DuPont.

DuPont has 30 days to appeal.
