The Joint Finance Committee (JFC) wants to fully restore Grant-in-Aid funding to Delaware nonprofits in the next fiscal year.
JFC members voted to approve a proposal putting the amount back to fiscal year 2017 levels, or about $46 million.
JFC Co-chair Melanie George Smith (D-Bear) says the overall number and the amount each nonprofit receives won’t be decided until Saturday.
“We’ve gotta figure out where we are number wise and then where are with revenue and then we’ll make adjustments as necessary,” she said.
State lawmakers cut Grant-in-Aid funding by 20 percent across the board for fiscal year 2018 to help cover a budget shortfall.
Disclosure: Delaware First Media Corporation, the parent company of Delaware Public Media, received $72,000 from the grants-in-aid budget during the current fiscal year.
Gov. John Carney (D) recommended appropriating $41.7 million in Grant-in-Aid, restoring half of last year’s cuts.
Lawmakers are expected to vote on the final Grant-in-Aid budget Saturday.
