Severe weather forces Firefly to shutdown

For the first time in its four-year existence, weather put a damper on the Firefly Festival.

Just before 10 pm Saturday night, event organizers asked the tens of thousands of fans on the grounds at the Woodlands in Dover to leave in advance of severe weather rolling into the state capital.   Fans were told to seek shelter in their vehicles.  Those camping on site were told to take down all pop-up tents, poles, and canopies at their campsite.

"The safety and well-being of our festival-goers, campers, and staff is a top priority for Firefly," said a message posted to the event's website.

The move came just as Saturday headliner Kings of Leon was set to play on the main stage.   Organizers announced on Facebook Sunday morning that Steve Aoki and The Chainsmokers were the only Saturday acts to be rescheduled.

"We will work closely with artists, production and our operations team to explore the best options pertaining to schedule adjustments. Changes will be on a case-by-case basis and determined by many factors. While we will do our best, we can't guarantee that we'll be able reschedule performances." said a message on the Firefly website.

Firefly is scheduled to conclude Sunday with The Killers serving as the headline act.
