Wilmington Mayor Mike Purzycki announced Tuesday Salesianum School is the only entity expressing interest in helping give Baynard Stadium a needed facelift.
Earlier this month, the city opened a 14-day window to allow potential partners interested in pursuing a public-private partnership to maintain Baynard to come forward.
No one joined Salesianum in stepping forward.
Sallies was already at the table last year, offering to invest $20 million to restore and run the field in exchange for a 50-year lease.
But after pushback from community members fearing access to inner-city groups would be stunted if a private entity controlled the field, Salesianum withdrew its offer.
Purzycki then formed an 11-member working group to explore different ways to pay for the field’s maintenance and upgrades. After a town hall meeting on various options, he decided a public-private partnership was the only path forward for the facility.
Purzycki says his administration will soon begin discussions with Salesianum about a partnership and present it to Wilmington City Council for review in the near future
