Restaurant at ferry's Lewes Terminal to be redeveloped

Delaware Public Media

Grain Craft Bar + Kitchen is the Delaware River and Bay Authority’s choice to redevelop the restaurant at the Cape May – Lewes Ferry Terminal in Lewes.

The redesigned restaurant, tentatively named Grain On The Rocks, is set to open next summer.

Grain gastropubs are co-owned by Lee Mikles. He and his partner operate three restaurants in Delaware and Pennsylvania. He said they hope to make the new location a destination spot at the beaches.

“It’s got an awesome view, it’s right on the water," he said. "It’s got an outside bar, it’s got an indoor dining room. And what we want to do is we want to connect all that and really bring the outside in. So we want to make it so everybody has a great view.”

Mikles said it will also feature an indoor/outdoor bar.

Grain restaurants offer extensive lists of craft beers and cocktails at three locations in Delaware and Pennsylvania.

Mickles said the new location at the ferry’s Lewes Terminal will offer a similar list, along with a version of its “polished casual” menu. He said it’s innovative, but not pretentious.

“We’ve got great cheesesteaks and burgers and nachos and stuff like that," he said. "But we also have crab nachos and shrimp tacos and crispy brussel sprouts as a side and… So, we’ve got a lot of creative items as well.”

He adds they also plan to extend the operating hours and add more workers when they open in summer 2020.
