Republican Donyale Hall runs for Dover Senate seat

Donyale Hall

Small business owner Donyale Hall is running to succeed Dover Democratic State Sen. Brian Bushweller.

A Republican win could shift control of the Senate.

Democrats currently have a one-seat majority in the Delaware Senate. Democratic State Rep. Trey Paradee is campaigning to replace Bushweller and keep the seat under Democratic control.

But he now faces opposition from Hall -- a military veteran and minority business owner. She said she wants to cut red tape for other small business owners.

“They’re the meat and the heart of what drives some of our employment structures here in Delaware," she said. "So, if we can you know get our small businesses up and running and we can employ more people. That helps us all the way around with people who are either underemployed or unemployment.”

Hall previously worked for the U.S. Department of Labor as a program assistant. She has a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Wilmington University.

Republican Justin King, Camden’s two-term mayor, is also seeking to take over Bushweller’s seat.

Bushweller has served two terms representing the Dover area in the State Senate.
