Another Delaware brewing company is making hand sanitizer and getting it into the hands of its customers.
A complimentary bottle of homemade hand sanitizer, dubbed Little Beauties, is included with each takeout order from Thompson Island Brewing Company in Rehoboth.
Thompson Island is part of the SoDel Concepts Hospitality Group. And its Director of OperationsMatt Patton said they decided to help fill the need after discovering some products used to clean their facilities could be repurposed for hand sanitizer. Using a recipe from the World Health Organization, they put their brew operation to work.
“We realized that if we were having a hard time finding hand sanitizer - our guests probably were too and there's all these recommendations out there by the CDC saying that everybody needs to hand sanitize when hand washing isn't an option.”
Patton says it’s a small scale operation. They’ve only made about 4 to 5 gallons so far, but they’re focused on keeping their restaurants stocked so they can continue to operate and keep their guests safe.
“We’re focused really on making sure that we don't run out in the restaurants so that we can keep operating our essential business and then also like I said giving some to the guest just as a convenience to try to help keep our guests safe.”
Dogfish Head led the trend of Delaware breweries and distilleries making hand sanitizer. It started about three weeks ago, making hundreds of gallons per day at its distillery to supply to the state -- and using the profits to help local restaurant workers laid off during the pandemic.
