Rehoboth Beach Main Street initiates Rehoboth in Bloom

Submitted photo
A new initiative launching in Rehoboth Beach this spring and summer seeks to make the resort beautiful with outdoor planters.

Rehoboth Beach Main Street is hoping to duplicate an initiative that’s already had success in the City of Lewes.

Rehoboth in Bloom is slated to start this spring and summer.

Cindy Lovett is the chairperson of the Rehoboth Beach Main Street Design Committee and chair of Rehoboth in Bloom.

“For the first year, we are going to purchase 30 Earth Planters, they are a self-watering planter, manufactured in upstate New York. And they’re going to be placed in front of businesses on the first block of Baltimore, Rehoboth Avenue and Wilmington Avenues,” Lovett said.

She says the Design Committee’s mission includes the beautification of downtown Rehoboth - and Rehoboth in Bloom fits that mission.

But Lovett also hopes the group will have help.

“What I’m hoping it’ll become is a community project.  And the planters will be place and then we’ll have a committee of volunteers who will take care of them and water them,” said Lovett.

The initiative based on a similar effort in Lewes, under the umbrella of the national America in Bloom program.
