Rehoboth Beach Commissioners meetings to have earlier start

Delaware Public Media
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Commissioners have a new meeting time starting this Friday.

New times for the Rehoboth Beach Commissioners start this week.

The resort’s Commissioners recently decided to move their meeting start time from 7 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Rehoboth Beach mayor Paul Kuhns explains why.

“We meet Friday’s...the third Friday of the month at 7 p.m. and then we also meet the Monday, 11 days previous to that Friday at 9 a.m. for the Workshop. And over the years, there have been a number of people - business people as well as residents - that have had difficulty meeting those 7 o’clock meetings on Friday nights,” Kuhns said.

Kuhns says the timing was especially difficult during the summer time when businesses are busy or weekend visitors are arriving in Rehoboth.

The Mayor adds that the decision to change the meeting time to 3 p.m. was a unanimous vote. It takes effect with this Friday’s meeting - December 21, 2018.

“There had been some talk over time about changing the Friday night meeting to Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. And that’s what we voted on; and it was a unanimous decision, after much discussion of two or three meetings - to change that date, the time on those Friday’s to 3 p.m,” said Kuhns.

He says he believes the change will help more people attend.

Kuhns also says the decision to livestream meetings is also helping make Commissioner’s meetings more accessible.
