The majority of the barricades used to create more space along Rehoboth Avenue in Rehoboth Beach disappear Wednesday.
The Rehoboth Beach commissioners approved their removal Tuesday, reopening approximately 130 parking spaces along the avenue.
Only one commissioner voted no. Lisa Schlosser expressed concern for the restaurants that may be left out.
“I think we’re getting so much good feedback and in walking up and down the street, these outdoor tables are being used extensively. I would hope that this commission does not take that right away from the restaurants.”
No additional restaurants can apply for a larger outdoor seating space on Rehoboth Ave. beyond the ones already approved. The only barriers left are where restaurants have already been approved to use the space.
Other restaurants can still apply for additional outdoor seating, but only for sidewalk space in front of their business.
The rest of the barricades are slated to remain in place until the end of July.
