Delawareans will hit the beaches to pick up trash this fall for the 32nd year in a row.
DNREC has opened online volunteer registration for the Delaware Coastal Cleanup from now until Sept. 2.
The annual cleanup spans the state’s 97 miles of eastern coast, including rivers, ocean shores, wetlands and watershed areas. This year’s cleanup will focus on 45 sites throughout the three counties.
Officials say last year more than a thousand volunteers collected some 2.7 tons of trash during the Coastal Cleanup — including a street sign, a dishwasher and a troll doll.
Delaware’s cleanup is scheduled for Sept. 14, a week before the Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup.
Individuals or groups of volunteers— like businesses, youth groups or civic organizations— are encouraged to pre-register on DNREC’s website, or contact Cleanup Coordinator Joanna Wilson or a zone captain.
