The Red Clay School District has named an interim superintendent.
Jill Floore will take over leadership of the state’s largest school district November 1.
That’s when current superintendent Merv Daugherty departs for his new job as superintendent of Chesterfield County Public Schools in Virginia. Daugherty has led Red Clay for the past nine years.
Floore is currently Red Clay’s Chief Financial Officer and has been with the district for 11 years. She’ll guide Red Clay while the district conducts its search for a new superintendent.
“I have great respect for the teachers in our district as well as Red Clay’s outstanding administrative team” said Floore in a statement. “My goal is to ensure continuity and provide a smooth transition as our team builds on the district successes and supports the Board in their search for the next superintendent.”
“Board members have the utmost confidence in her abilities to manage the district while a new superintendent is sought,” said Red Clay School Board President Catherine Thompson in a statement. “She knows our plan and she will carry it out.”
The district has hired the University of Delaware’s Institute for Public Administration to help direct its search – which it says will include public meetings and an online survey as part of the process.
Since 2009, the Institute for Public Administration has assisted eight First State school districts in hiring a superintendent.
Red Clay hopes to complete its search by March of next year
Including its charter schools, Red Clay serves more than 17,000 students. It has a budget of just over $265 million and employs about 1,100 teachers
