Punkin Chunkin says it's a "go" in 2016

It appears pumpkins will fly again in Sussex County later this year.

World Championship Punkin Chunkin announced over social media Saturday that it plans to return in 2016, back at the site that was its most recent home until insurance issues put the pumpkin-hurling event on hiatus after the 2013 edition of the event.

Event organizers say an arrangement has been reached with Wheatley Farms in Bridgeville to hold Punkin Chunkin November 4th thru 6th.

Punkin Chunkin abandon that site after a lawsuit filed by a volunteer raised questions about insuring the annual event there.

In the announcement, World Championship Punkin Chunkin board president Frank Payton says insurance has been worked out to protect both the event and owners of the site – but adds it will cost three times as much as it did previously.

The group attempted to move Punkin Chunkin to Dover International Speedway last November, but canceled it again just weeks before it was schedule when they couldn’t obtain the required permits and insurance.

World Championship Punkin Chunkin has spent the past five months exploring other site options, including a move to Dorchester County, Maryland.
