Delaware Public Media

The spring surge in gas prices continues as the calendar turns to April.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price for a gallon of regular in Delaware to start the month is $2.50.

That’s 23 cents higher than a month ago.

But there is some good news. Prices at the pump in the First State are still significantly cheaper than those around region.

Drivers in the Philadelphia area are paying nearly $2.80 a gallon, while the price in South Jersey and Maryland is around $2.65.

And a year ago, the price locally was already just north of $2.60.

Triple-A Mid-Atlantic says while prices may continue to rise during the spring – they are not likely go as high as they did last May when they flirted with the 3-dollar a gallon mark

The national average for a gallon of regular currently site sits at $2.69.
