Over a billion dollars at stake in MegaMillions, Powerball drawings

Delaware Public Media

Delawareans may want to brave the frigid temperatures Friday long effort to pick up some lottery tickets.

Two huge jackpots, totaling just just over a billion dollars combined, are up for grabs this weekend.

Strong ticket sales have pushed the MegaMillions prize to $445 million dollars for Friday night’s drawing.  It was at $418 million after Tuesday’s drawing failed to yield a winner.  It’s now the fourth biggest MegaMillions prize ever and the 13th largest jackpot in U.S History.

But it’s not a big as the Powerball jackpot available Saturday night.  That sits at $570 million dollars after getting its own boost from brisk ticket sales.

That’s is the 8th biggest jackpot ever in the U.S. and the largest Powerball jackpot since it climbed to nearly $759 million last August

Delaware has never had a MegaMillions jackpot winner, and the state’s last Powerball winner came in December 2017 when a winning ticket worth nearly $122 million was sold at a Selbyville gas station.

The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are 1 in 258 million.

The Powerball odds are about 1 in 292 million.
