Organizers say releasing incomplete 2015 Firefly schedule was nod to fans

Red Frog Events says its decision this week to release the lineup for this year’s Firefly Music Festival with one of the main acts blurred out was meant to appease increasingly impatient fans.

Christiane Pheil, director of talent and artist relations for Red Frog, says they didn’t want to make fans wait any longer while trying to finalize that last act.

But she adds recent line-up leaks and buzz about who’s coming and that yet-to-be-announced final act are a sign of success.

“Leaks and rumors and stuff like that, that comes with the territory of becoming a major festival, Pheil says, “So we kind of consider that as a bit of a ‘we made it’ moment. We’re in the big leagues now, and we’re going to expect that every year.”

Other acts on the 2015 Firefly festival in June include Kings of Leon, Morrissey and Snoop Dogg.

Delaware-based indie band Fiance and hip-hop trio Cypher Clique will be playing at the Woodlands at the Dover International Speedway this summer, according to the lineup.

Pheil says including Delaware acts is more than just throwing Delaware a bone.

“We love bringing in local talent,” she says. “We have a ton of acts from New York and Philadelphia and the Northeast region. But we love looking close to home, not just because they’re local, but because they’re talented.”

Pheil says Red Frog expects to announce the unnamed headliner, rumored to be former Beatle Paul McCartney, in the next couple of weeks. She adds tickets will go on sale soon after. Firefly will be held June 18-21.
