More Delaware utility crews heading to help with Hurricane Dorian

Sep 3, 2019

The Delaware Municipal Electric Corporation (DEMEC) is joining the list of utilities sending crews to help Florida weather Hurricane Dorian.

The storm, currently a Category 2 hurricane, is slowly heading northwest after hitting the Bahamas as a Category 5.

Nine DEMEC linemen and six bucket trucks from the cities of Milford, Newark and New Castle left for Jacksonville, FL Tuesday morning. They’ll stage there before heading to New Smyrna Beach, FL, about an hour northeast from Orlando.

The storm also threatens Georgia and the Carolinas later this week.

Crews from Delmarva Power left for Florida last week to help with Hurricane Dorian. Delaware crews are joining more than 1,500 mutual aid lineworker volunteers and 6,000 employees deployed to assist.

As of August 31st, 36 states and Canada have offered their services and resources to help with the hurricane.
