Market Street Music set to present a two-part virtual holiday concert

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, two downtown Wilmington arts organizations are taking to the virtual realm to continue bringing music to the general public this holiday season.

Virtual concerts are the new norm as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. And two downtown Wilmington arts organizations are taking to the virtual realm to continue bringing music this holiday season.

One of those organizations is Market Street Music. Its director David Schelat says the Cartoon Christmas Trio performs a two-part jazz concert on its new YouTube channel December 12 and 15 at 7:45 p.m.

“Cartoon Christmas Trio is just a great ensemble of jazz musicians that play music from A Charlie Brown Christmas and other Christmas holiday TV specials. It’s lots and lots and lots of fun," said Schelat.

Schelat says this two-part concert by the Cartoon Christmas Trio is free to viewers and can be found by searching for Market Street Music on YouTube.

Schelat says it's a way to continue Market Street Music'smission.

“This is our 11th season. And we serve northern Delaware and the surrounding region - and particularly downtown Wilmington with lots of things," said Schelat. "We have normally - in normal years - we have a series of Thursday new-type concerts, half-hour programs that are free.”

Schelat says they also usually have six full-length festival concerts in the evenings or on weekends that come with a small ticket price.

And coming up later this week on Delaware Public Media - we’ll tell you about another virtual concert happening this weekend - performed by Melomanie - a “provocative pairings” ensemble.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
