Lawmakers hold town hall to discuss Rt 54 traffic concerns

Traffic conditions along Route 54 in Sussex County will be the topic of a public meeting being held tomorrow (Tuesday).

State Senator Gerald Hocker (R-Ocean View) and State Rep. Ron Gray (R-Selbyville) are holding a public meeting Tuesday to discuss traffic conditions along Route 54.

Hocker says several representatives from DelDOT will be on hand to discuss entrance plans for the Royal Farms site, traffic in and around that location, and other related issues concerning traffic on Route 54.

"Back 15 years ago, when I was first elected, one of the first pieces of legislation that I had passed was a resolution to do a study on all the East/West routes; they were all terribly congested: 24, 26 and 54," said Hocker.

Hocker adds the study concluded Route 54 has outgrown its last expansion. He also points out there is a lot of gridlock on the road, especially on Saturdays.

"There's a awful lot of development in Sussex County really, and the bad part is that DelDOT has not kept up with the development and we all know that," said Hocker.

Tuesday’s public meeting runs from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the Roxanna Fire Hall on Zion Church Road in Frankford.
