Lawmaker arrested following alleged restaurant altercation

State Sen. Darius Brown (D-Wilmington) faces charges after being arrested following an alleged altercation at a North Wilmington restaurant Sunday night.

According to Delaware State Police, Brown punched a woman in the face after an argument over a social media post.  He left the restaurant before troopers arrived.

Police say the 44-year-old woman involved “sustained some redness to the side of her face, but did not require any medical attention.”

Brown faces misdemeanor offensive touching and disorderly conduct charges

He turned himself in to State Police Tuesday.  He was processed and released the same day, but wasn’t at Tuesday’s State senate session.

Senate President Pro Temp David Sokola (D-Newark) released a statement calling accusations of domestic violence “serious,” but noting everyone deserves a presumption of innocence.

"I will carefully consider whether any formal actions are warranted in the coming days as we learn more about this incident," said Sokola in his statement.

Correction: This story was updated to reflect the alleged altercation happened Sunday night.  State Police initally reported it happened Saturday night, then corrected the error.
