Kathy Jennings scored a convincing win in the Democratic primary for Attorney General.
Jennings finished with 57 percent of the vote in a four-way primary. She out-paced runner-up LaKresha Roberts by more than 28,000 votes.
Jennings says her stance on a number of issues resonated with voters.
“That we do need change in Delaware, that we need to reform the criminal justice system, that we do need to do a better job of helping people coming out of the system ... and reduce the recidivism rate,” she said.
She admits there was little daylight between her and the other Democrats running on those issues— and feels her experience set her apart.
“I’ve had a great deal of experience getting change to fruition— through the legislature and with other government agencies,” she said.
Jennings says she expects the Democratic Party will unite as it now pivots toward the general election.
“We are all Democrats,” she said. “And I’m very proud of the way this race was run, from everyone.”
She’ll will now face Republican Bernard Pepukayi, a long time Democrat, in November’s general election.
