The former mayor of Smyrna - Joanne Masten - captured the Democratic bid for the Kent County Levy Court 1st District seat in Tuesday’s Primary election.
Masten defeated challenger Morgan Russum by collecting 2,431 votes to Russum’s 676 votes.
Masten will now face Republican Doug Chervenak in November’s general election. Both are vying to replace Brooks Banta - who announced earlier this year that he would not seek re-election this year.
