Incumbents hold their seats in Newark City Council elections

Incumbents carried the day in Tuesday’s Newark City Council elections.

Voters in Districts 1, 2 and 4 all returned their current representatives to their council seats for new two-year terms.

In District 1, Mark Morehead earned a third term, defeating Joseph Charma by 59 votes – 456-to-397.

Incumbent Todd Ruckle won his District 2 race against Glenn Schmalhofer handily 136-to-13 to earn a full term after taking a special election last year to finish retiring Councilman Jerry Clifton's term.

And in District 4, incumbent Marge Hadden survived her rematch with Ronald Walker, winning by a 12 vote margin – 131-119.  That was a slightly larger spread than two years ago when Hadden beat Walker by 9 votes in a four-person race.

The results will be certified Thursday and winners will be sworn in next week on April 21st
